Eva Ibbotson’s public appearances are rare, but in this week’s edition of BBC School Radio’s Meet the Author she invites pupils from West Jesmond primary near her home in Newcastle to visit her study and hear how her writing changed direction when she “ran out of jokes” after her husband’s death. Each of the eight programmes is presented by children who introduce their favourite books and tackle the authors with their questions.

Coming soon: Philip Ridley’s literary landmarks in Bethnal Green, east London; and Valerie Bloom’s Jamaican patois crash course in Swanley, Kent.

To find out how to download programmes or order cassettes, see the English page at www.bbc.co.ukschoolradio or the current BBC primary catalogue.
