THE Charity Commission has backed complaints by humanists against Christian charity Samaritan’s Purse. More than 24,000 UK schools take part in the Samaritan’s Purse annual Operation Christmas Child appeal, which asks pupils to fill shoeboxes with gifts for children in Bosnia, Russia, Romania and Armenia. But, say the British Humanist Association, many schools are unaware of the charity’s evangelical Christian agenda. It issued a complaint to the Charity Commission in November, and the commission has now written to Samaritan’s Purse to raise its concerns.
