PICASSO: PAINTER AND SCULPTOR IN CLAY

The first major exhibition to focus on the artist’s work in clay has been mounted at the Royal Academy, Piccadilly, London W1. Over 200 pieces, created during his last 30 years in the south of France, are on display, of which two-thirds have never been exhibited. Details: 0171 300 8000.

EVACUEES DAYS

The Royal Air Force Museum in Hendon, London NW9, is laying on a vintage bus to help recreate the time when city children, carrying gas-masks and tagged with luggage labels, kissed their parents goodbye when escaping the Blitz during World War II. On day one, school groups can join a 1940s lesson, interrupted by air-raid warnings and including arithmetic with Pounds . s.d. and writing with dip pens. Normal admission price. WOMEN’S SCIENCE NIGHT

Stay at London’s Science Museum all night and listen to talks given by women research scientists, take part in a brain workshop and establish how reliable your memory is, explore the interactive galleries - without children - and extract DNA from an onion, go on gallery tours and watch drama performances. HISTORIC BURTON TRAIL-A-THON

As part of the Burton Festival and to mark the launch of three sign-posted interactive trails around the brewing, monastic and borough heritage of Burton upon Trent, this Trail-a-Thon will follow the brewing trail, starting from the Bass Museum, 9.30am-11.30am. Lasting about one-and-a-half hours, it will be full of entertainment, music and activities for all the family. Funds raised will go to the Queens Hospital MRI Scanner Appeal. Sponsor forms from the Hospital, Bass Museum, tourist information centre and Boots the chemist.
