UNTIL DECEMBER 3: FUTURE MAP. The future direction that art, communications and design will take is indicated by this exhibition of works done by outstanding 1998 graduates from the London Institute’s five colleges.

Museum exhibitions, lectures, seminars and gallery shows are being held throughout London, and, until November 20, auctions of Asian Art are taking place at Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Phillip’s and Bonham’s. “Pi ce de resistance” of the festival is the exhibition, “100 masterpieces of Imperial Chinese ceramics from the Au Bak Ling Collection: 12th to 18th Centuries” at the Royal Academy of Arts, Piccadilly, W1. NOVEMBER 15: WAYS WITH WORDS. Aspiring and seasoned writers are invited to join a “Discoveries” writing workshop with Carol Burnes, an internationally published poet and performer. NOVEMBER 21: PRIVATISATION AND FOR-PROFIT SCHOOLS. Public meeting organised jointly by the Socialist Teachers Alliance and the new journal, “Education and Social Justice”. NOVEMBER 24: “A SPACE”: OUT-OF-SCHOOL CENTRE. Presentation of a pioneering out-of-school centre developed for eight to 14-year-olds by Institute of Education academics in collaboration with the London Borough of Hackney. Venue: 20 Bedford Way, London WC1, 10.30am-1pm. Key principles include: children’s participation, multi-agency collaboration and crossing the primarysecondary divide.
