JUNE 10. THE SILENT PIONEERS: WOMEN IN THE EARLY FILM INDUSTRY

International symposium at National Film Theatre 2, South Bank, London SE1 for students of film, cultural and women's studies and anyone interested in the subject. It will include screenings and papers on: Alice Guy and the Gaumont legacy, Germaine Dulac, censorship and personal conflict, Lois Weber, Musidora and the vaudeville inheritance, androgny and issues of gender and sexuality. JUNE 12-JULY 26 PARENTING AND EDUCATION

Free introductory talks for parents and professionals at The New Learning Centre, 211 Sumatra Road, London NW6 and 21 Kensington Park Gardens, London W11, led by No l Janis-Norton, learning and behaviour specialist, and her colleague Gillian Edwards. Subjects include: dyslexia and dyspraxia, resolving parent-child conflicts, sibling squabbles and peer-group problems, and tackling severe school problems. JUNE 21-23 DIRECTIONS '95 - THE SCHOOLS' FAIR

Free TES-sponsored exhibition and seminars for the 15-plus age group at Hall 2, Wembley Conference and Exhibition Centre, London, 9.30am-4pm. Open to school parties, individual students, teachers, careers advisers and parents, it will include higher education institutions, potential commercial employers and vocational organisations.
