National Children’s Art Day is on June 20 and is part of Big Arts Week, June 15-22, an initiative to get children and young people involved in the arts. Activities include artists working with schools and larger scale projects such as the national “art shadow” programme, which involves children spending a day with leading artists, assisting them in their work. Tate director Sir Nicholas Serota and artist Anthony Caro were among those participating last year. In addition, pound;60,000 is to be given away at Tate Modern, London SE1, in the annual Artworks Young Artists of the Year Awards, funded by the Clore Duffield Foundation.
