The New Designers exhibition, showcasing the inspirational work of more than 4,000 graduate designers, takes place at the Business Design Centre in London. Part I, June 30-July 3, focuses on contemporary applied arts; ceramics and glass; fashion, textiles and accessories; jewellery and precious metalwork. Part II, July 7-10, is devoted to illustration and animation; furniture design; graphic design and interactive media; product design; spatial design (architecture, interior design, theatre design and modelmaking); and photography. On schools’ days (July 1 and 8), entrance is pound;6.95 for under 16s.

The European Design Show is on display at the Design Museum in London until September 4. From the Swiss team Alinghi’s visionary boat for the 2007 Americas Cup to McLaren’s world-beating Formula 1 technology, this is a chance to see exciting innovations in contemporary design. Also on show are beautifully designed books, magazines, websites, furniture and haute couture.

Highlights of the London Design Festival, September 15-30, include 100% Design and 100% East, focusing on interior design at different sides of town; the British Council’s ImportExport exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, exploring international influences on contemporary British design, and vice versa; and the Design Museum’s Design Mart and Designing Modern Life exhibitions. More than 100 events - mainly free - are on the programme, supported by Creative London, a London Development Agency initiative. They include Design Nation’s Eureka! Project, furniture and home accessories by young designers on display at the Oxo Gallery.
