The next generation of potential world class judoists will be at the Scottish Schools’ Championships at Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh next Saturday. Scotland has been traditionally strong in judo and won medals across the world in recent years.
New direction
Hopscotch Theatre has been reinventing itself, following the departure of director Grant Smeaton. It is moving away from Scottish history entertainments towards more mainstream educational theatre for primary schools. The first production of the new era, I Want to be an Inventor, will end its run this month at the National Museum of Scotland and the Glasgow Science Centre. Next year, Hopscotch will tour What We Did When The Oil Ran Out.

Workshops
East Lothian Arts Service is advertising free workshops for its schools that are designed to fit with health, citizenship and expressive arts.
Dance sessions for S1-S2 with Brunton Theatre’s resident dance company, The Curve Foundation, will cover warm-up and dance skills, from now until December 1. Half-day drama workshops, entitled Praise Youth And It Will Prosper, will give voice to S1 pupils’ opinions on November 20-30 and December 4-14. A project in partnership with the Countryside Rangers Service, environmentalist ohn Muir’s birthplace in Dunbar and the ohn Muir Award aims to enhance P5 children’s awareness of wild places.

Edinburgh Wolves are looking for players aged 14-18. The recruitment officer, Tom Cramb, says: “Our sport is one that really has a spot on the team for everyone, from short to tall, slow to fast.”
