Hearts and designs
Appropriately, at this time of year, ’“family” is very much at the heart of a new exhibition at the St Andrews Museum in St Andrews, Fife.
Organised by Fife Contemporary Art and Craft, “Cycling up the Hill with my Dad” celebrates the work of Scottish textile artist Claire Heminsley and her late father, potter David Heminsley, who died suddenly while the exhibition was in preparation.
Originally from Birmingham, David Heminsley later moved to Fife where he established his own pottery and was a founder member of the Scottish Potters’ Association.
For this show, which runs until January 20, Claire has produced work inspired not only by her father, but by other family members. For instance, she uses dressmaking techniques and materials borrowed from her fashion-designing mother and sister. Other textile pieces are based on childhood memories.
