JANUARY 17-21 ART96: THE LONDON CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR

A variety of work will be on show at the Business Design Centre, Islington, N1, from some of the country’s best-known names through to younger, up-and-coming artists. The Fair will also showcase the winners of the first annual Wingate Young Artists Awards. Details: 0171 359 3535.

The National Army Museum, Chelsea, London SW3, is complementing its displays and exhibitions with illustrated presentations on subjects which include the Battle of Falkirk (on its 250th anniversary), fighting with the bayonet, medicine and the soldier, and Bonnie Prince Charlie (to mark the opening of the museum’s new special exhibition on February 7). JANUARY 30 CAREERS FOR GEOGRAPHERS SYMPOSIUM

Organised by the Royal Geographical Society at Stonar School, Atworth, Melksham, Wiltshire, for sixth-form geographers and undergraduates.
