FEBRUARY 28-JUNE 8 AUGUST SANDER: “IN PHOTOGRAPHY THERE ARE NO UNEXPLAINED SHADOWS”

Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, St Martin’s Place, London WC2, of the work of the great German photographer. On display are his “People of the 20th century” portraits of farmers, professionals, intellectuals, aristocrats and the outcasts of society, the sick and the dying. London’s Museums of Health and Medicine (LMHM) have organised special events. CELEBRATE THE COMING OF EASTER

Meat spit-roasting on the kitchen fire, butter-making in the dairy and traditional skills in the loom shop are some of the activities taking place in the 17th-century Clarke Hall in Wakefield. HORSE FUN DAY

Around 2,000 nine to 11-year-olds will be trying a horse ride in safety at either a local riding school or at school. The project, sponsored by Charles Owen (manufacturer of safety headgear for riders), aims to break the myth that horseriding is expensive. Worksheets are available for preparation work.
