More than 40 schools and colleges in Devon were supplied with a stretched canvas on which to produce work in any medium such as paint, textiles, relief sculpture, collage, print or montage. They also constructed a life-size figure. The resulting exhibition is open to the public at the Tate Gallery, Cornwall, and moves on to newspaper offices in Plymouth and Exeter. Striking images of Nigeria taken by the leading Scottish photographer are on display at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh. The exhibition brings together the themes of evangelical Christianity and “traditional” religion in a political and economic context, and questions the nature of post-colonial society in southern Nigeria. UNTIL JULY 27 THE CUTTING EDGE:50 YEARS OF BRITISH FASHION

More than 250 outfits and accessories feature in this exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London SW7. It is divided into four themes: romantic (ballgowns, wedding dresses, evening wear); tailoring; Bohemian (ethnic, classical and medieval dress); and country (hunting, shooting, fishing clothes) and includes designs by Sir Hardy Amies, Mary Quant, Zandra Rhodes, Antony Price, Vivienne Westwood and Savile Row tailors. MARCH 17-23 SCIENCE WEEK

The National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, Bradford, is running practical photography workshops for key stage 2-3 pupils, fee Pounds 2. A chance to visit Edinburgh’s first Doll Disease Clinic and the Classic Plastic Clinic or head to the Assembly Rooms for the Science Works extravaganza, which includes shows on the secrets of special effects in movies , elastic and plastic, the StarLab inflatable planetarium, Space Show, and, for young children, a science playcentre and a character called Magic Bob.
