GOYA: THE DISPARATES (1819-1824)

Last chance to see Goya’s final series of etchings about the folly of mankind at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery. Representing a savage satirical attack on the political and social customs of the time, they include macabre images of the disasters of war, the frenzied, grotesque side of carnival festivity, and a Dance of Death. LAND OF LAUNDRIES

Al Johnson’s installation at the Ragged School Museum of East End Life, 46-50 Copperfield Road, London E3, celebrates the unsung heroines of the washtub. Seven pairs of bronzed hands trapped in pillories set on plinths engage in soaping, pegging and folding. The plinths are connected by a stream of white laundry stitched with stories, songs, verse and anecdotes told by laughing women. Some of the recorded voices belong to women living in Hackney. CHILDREN’S ART WORKSHOPS

Children of all ages are invited to drop in, handle and draw unusual and exciting objects from the Museum of Reading’s collection (2.15-4.30pm). On April 9 (11am, 1.30pm, 3.15pm), a potter will take children aged seven upwards around the Silchester gallery to look at Roman pottery including oil lamps, tiles and pots.
