John Howson asks (TES, December 11)) how, in connection with the rise in numbers of permanently excluded pupils, we can devise a curriculum that is meaningful and relevant to them?
The first step would be to insist that all students at risk of permanent exclusion are placed on their school’s special educational needs register. They would then receive a basic minimum of support from their school and advice from local education authority support services.
They would also be entitled to an individual education plan, including curriculum modification where appropriate.
