Members of the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers are to stage a one-day strike at the Manton junior school, Worksop next Tuesday unless Matthew Wilson, whom they accuse of threatening behaviour, is excluded. Governors at the school have twice overturned the head’s order to exclude him. Union general secretary Nigel de Gruchy said the right of governors to veto heads’ decisions should be withdrawn.
Education officials are due to meet Matthew’s mother and school governors today in an attempt to resolve the dispute.
Nottinghamshire education authority has assured parents the school will open on Tuesday.
The NASUWT, which has led the call for tougher measures against unruly pupils, claimed a victory earlier this year when a 13-year-old Nottingham schoolboy, Richard Wilding, was removed to a referral unit as a result of threatened strike action.
