The leader of the organisation representing elite independent school headteachers has resigned.
Mike Buchanan became the first executive director of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC) in 2018 in a role that replaced the HMC general secretary.
HMC boss quits
The HMC said it did not plan to make an official statement but added that the resignation had been "an internal matter" and that Mr Buchanan had "parted on good terms".
Mr Buchanan, who is Australian, has taught at several independent schools and was headmaster of Ashford School in Kent before taking up the role.
He has been approached for comment.
