A virtual tour around Britain from your desk is possible with The Expedition 2001. This versatile CD-Rom has two complementary components. First, the Database lists and briefly describes more than 15,000 sites of broad cultural interest from York Minster (pictured) to Peckham Library. It contains addresses and map references and has many search categories. The second element, the Backpack, contains notes on 4,000-odd buildings, ith mini-essays on their architecture and historical significance. Many are photographed, and there are entries covering prominent architects, and a detailed glossary - an expert companion on an endless journey.
