Not so Tony Elliston, the major casualty in the Hackney education wars. His revolutionary programme to transform the borough ended when he was “deleted”.
According to Mr Elliston the recent growth of “managing directors” in local government has come about by getting rid of chief executives. The job is deleted and its holder made redundant.
As part of his rehabilitation, he was due this week to give a lecture to the right-wing Institute of Economic Affairs on “something rotten in the state of Hackney”.
