We at the community learning organisation ContinYou totally agree with the recent report from the Children’s Play Council and the Children’s Society which asserts that play is a fundamental part of a child’s development and that “we must protect every child’s right to play”.
At ContinYou, we believe play should be intrinsic to both the “core” timetable and to activities outside normal hours in “extended schools”. By emphasising the importance of play, schools can successfully engage pupils in physical activity and ensure they enjoy and get maximum benefit from 8am-6pm school activities that are not classroom-driven.
