Britain is to donate pound;12 million to a World Bank fund aimed at helping some of the poorest countries to “kick-start” their education.

States that would benefit from the fund included Yemen, the Gambia and Guyana, said Hilary Benn, international development secretary. The cash was additional to the pound;17m that Britain spent on education in developing nations this year, he said.
