THE number of failing schools that have pulled themselves out of special measures in the past four years has passed 700, Government figures show.

The rate at which new schools are being failed by inspectors i also falling. But 124 failing schools which did not improve have been closed since Labour came to power. There were 359 schools in special measures at the end of March, compared with 515 in July 1998.
