A fairy tale that’s definitely not for children

Film critic Tim Robey, quoted in “Top billing” (Feature, 22 November), says “you could argue that (Pan’s Labyrinth) is a children’s film”. But how? Anyone showing this to children would be grossly negligent. True, there are mythical characters and a child is the central character, but the film’s scariness lies not in its use of creatures and monsters of a Grimms’ Fairy Tales type: there are much more complex issues explored and at times it is truly horrifying and shocking.
