Last month marked the bicentenary of the birth of Hans Christian Andersen. A series of celebratory events will be taking place across the world until the end of the year, not least in Scotland. These include concerts, theatre and film events and exhibitions, such as a display of Andersen’s books now showing at the Museum of Childhood in Edinburgh (tel 0131 529 4142). The Danish Cultural Institute in Edinburgh has details of events on www.dancult.demon.co.uk.
A package of education materials for primary and secondary schools has been created for the anniversary and is available free on the internet. www.hca2005.comeducation
