THE National Union of Teachers has criticised a proposed new law that would make it easier for faith schools to sack gay employees. New employment regulations, which have been drafted to incorporate European law, would allow church schools to discriminate against employees on the basis of their sexual orientation or religion if they can prove it conflicts with the nature of their work. Doug McAvoy, NUT general secretary, said the union would not hesitate to challenge any such decision under human rights legislation if it became law.
