False picture of our salaries

I am writing to point out that while teachers with a London weighting may expect to be earning a basic salary of more than of pound;21,000 after two years, those of us who do not live near London can expect to wait up to six years before receiving such a salary, should they choose to remain on the main scale ( TES, October 3).

While I think it is entirely correct that London salaries should reflect the increased costs of living, I resent the fact that whenever I read anything about teacher salaries in the press, London figures are always used. Published items should make this discrepancy clear, since it gives a false impression to people outside the profession about our true pay and conditions.
