The item in our magazine a couple of weeks ago, “It’s a family affair”, about what it’s like when your children are also your pupils, brought a wry smile to Sandy Glass, the former rector of Dingwall Academy.
Clearing out some old magazines, he came across a piece by his teenage daughter, “Life with Father”, written when she was a pupil at the school in 1979 (as were her two sisters).
Now a teacher herself, young Muriel showed an accomplished style. “It may have occurred to you that I really haven’t said anything very complimentary about him,” she told her readers, “but the public interest is always in vice rather than virtue.”
Not to worry, she signed off cheerfully, next year’s magazine might well carry an article entitled “Life with Muriel.”
