Free workshops for primary and secondary school pupils are running at the Queen’s Gallery in Edinburgh, to accompany the Unfolding Pictures exhibition on fans. Curators say: “This first ever exhibition of fans from the Royal Collection brings together more than 80 examples from the early 17th century to the 1930s.” One given to Queen Alexandra in 1903 is inscribed with the words: “I cool, I refresh and I can keep secrets.”

Workshops feature a fan-making activity and a tour of the exhibition. Fan Fun for P1-P7 includes storytelling, while workshops for P4-P7 and S1-S4 include, respectively, the language of fans and exploration of construction. The exhibition and workshops run until late May. For details, tel 0131 557 2500.
