Yet again the Government embarks on a recruitment campaign costing millions.

Teachers in the UK are the most poorly paid in Europe when cost of living is considered. Unions claim that they have bargained for a 36 per cent pay rise over the past 10 years. What sort of a victory is that?

Only a few weeks ago, Charles Clarke was claiming there was a surplus of trainee teachers - what nonsense. Every week there are hundreds of vacancies in the TES. The Department for Education and Skills is spinning so fast that it has taken off and landed on fantasy island.
