Teachers and pupils working on fashion and textile technology may be inspired by an exhibition of scarves, It’s not only the Queen ..., which takes place at the Dundas Street Gallery in Edinburgh from February 6-11.

The exhibition features scarves designed by Design for Textiles students at Heriot-Watt University’s School of Textiles and Design in Galashiels, and has been endorsed by renowned fashion writer and honorary graduate of the school, Colin McDowell: “Headscarves have been part of British life for a long time, which is why this exhibition is so important. I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying it.”

The students’ designs have been realised in collaboration with a number of leading Scottish textiles companies, including lace makers Morton Young and Borland, weavers Holland and Sherry, and cashmere yarn spinners Todd Duncan.

Course director Mark Parker said: “The students have found it a wonderful challenge to reinterpret their personal ideas against the restraints and expectations of the industry.”
