A private school forced to close abruptly due to financial difficulties has reopened after two fathers volunteered to paypound;1 million to rescue it.

Students at Newlands school in Seaford, East Sussex, will be able to continue preparing to sit GCSE and A-level exams in the summer.

Up to 450 pupils were left scrambling for school places after receiving letters just before Easter stating Newlands had gone into administration.

Mike Holland, whose son was due to sit mock GCSEs, and his business partner John Summers, who had two children at the school, offered to pay administrators Kroll to ensure Newlands continues.
