Looking for books on a specific topic? Book Trust, which receives 70,000 enquiries a year, has set up a special fax line to answer queries, thanks to funding from the Arts Council lottery fund. Readers can now call in for book information 24 hours a day. Hundreds of up-to-date lists recommend books for a broad range of subjects broken down into age groups.

Topics include bullying, drugs, adoption and fostering, death and bereavement, and race and multicultural issues. All that is required is a fax machine with a telephone handset. Call BookFax on 0891 717919 on the handset, and follow the voice instructions. Calls are charged at 49p per minute, 39p off peak.
