Teachers are put off organising field-trips because of the extra work and fears about health and safety, a report by Ofsted said yesterday. Children should be given more opportunities to learn outside the classroom, including foreign trips and music clubs, the report said. But Christine Gilbert, the chief inspector, said activities were sometimes seen as “a treat, rather than as an integral part of the curriculum.”
