The winners of this weeks’ fantastic fair-trade giveaway are Year 6 pupils at Dilkes primary, South Ockendon, Thurrock. A new child joined the class last term from a school where he had been in constant trouble. He found it difficult to build relationships and at first, says class teacher Roy Meleady, he would let his frustrations get the better of him, so staff decided it was in everyone’s best interests to keep him off the playground.

But the children in his class worked hard to make him feel welcome, to the point where he has been reintroduced to outside play, under supervision, and is joining in games. Mr Meleady says he will continue to experience difficulties but, thanks in large part to the efforts of his peers, he now knows he can be accepted and make friends.

Does your class play fair? If so, let us know why, and they could receive a box of fair-trade Dubble chocolate bars and a match-quality Team football from Fair Deal. Email friday@tes.co.uk. Mark your message Dubblefootball offer. More information: www.dubble.co.uk; www.fairdealtrading.co.uk.
