I am grateful that principal examiners are practitioners of the subject I teach. However, it is a reflection of the amateurish way that our examinations system is run that the afternoon session of a “feedback” course I attended recently was cancelled because the principal examiner was not allowed out of school!
The cancelled feedback session was the only time the examining board would have been accountable for the questions they set, the way they marked them and the grade boundaries that they decided on. A principal examiner not being allowed out of school to hear such feedback is a situation for which somebody somewhere should be held accountable.
