The gender issue has reared its head again in David Budge’s article (“Inspections can be the last straw for women”, TES, May 31).
Earlier in the year, I asked the Office for Standards in Education how many of the schools appearing in the chief inspector’s list of excellent primary schools were run by women, and how many by men.
Of the primary schools named in the annual report, women headteachers outnumber men by almost two to one. I am therefore tempted to make a simple, cost-effective suggestion to the education service. Promote more women.
This will ensure twice as many excellent schools nationwide. And all this from “within existing resources”.
