Tony Benn, as much in demand as ever, has been spending a lot of his time with further education recently. In just the past week, he has attended a lobby of Parliament with the Association of Colleges and appeared at a conference organised by the Learning and Skills Development Agency.
So no time for celebrity interviews, apparently. I hear a journalist recently asked him to do an interview which would include such revelations as his favourite holiday destination and his favourite meal. He declined the interview, insisting he preferred to talk about the things which interest him. Like colleges.
But for the benefit of my colleague, I can exclusively reveal the answer to at least one of these questions. His favourite meal is “cheese sandwiches and tea”, he tells me. Hold the front page.
