The Field Studies Council, an environmental education charity, issubsidising weekend fieldwork courses for newly qualified teachers and PGCE students between February 20 and May 30. They provide a comprehensive introduction to managing groups during fieldwork, risk assessment and using different sites and habitats, along with practical subject-based activities and ideas. A certificate of attendance is awarded upon successful completion.

Held at the council’s centres in England and Wales, the courses are for primary, key stages 3 to 4 and A2AS-level teachers with separate courses for biologyscience and geography teachers. The British Ecological Society has provided additional sponsorship for science courses.
