Fife was facing similar “crisis” headlines this time last year following a pound;1.8 million overspend, most notably on school transport and special educational needs. Demand-led services forced the plunge into the red, officials said.
The deficit was eliminated after councillors backed additional funding for education, although schools incurred budget cuts. In the current financial year, education has benefited from a pound;3 million injection, over and above the extra for the post-McCrone pay deal.
