North-east England is acting as a magnet to European students seeking work experience in foreign trade, tourism and marketing.
Katja Pirttimaki, 23, is one of 200 Finnish students on work experience schemes in the Leeds area this year organised by Park Lane College. The foreign trade student from the College of Commerce in Turku, south-west Finland, took a four-week placement at Digby’s nightclub in Leeds for research on European leisure.
Industry secondments last up to three months. Leeds’ popularity grew after the college opened a European office to market services.
