Can I take this opportunity to correct a statement that Fir Vale school, Sheffield, has been removed from special measures (TES, January 25). Fir Vale was a “Fresh Start” school opened in September 1998 and has never been in special measures. What it has been in its short life is an unmitigated success. Inspectors confirmed this in January in the report of its full section 10 inspection describing the school as a “good school with many outstanding characteristics”.
Staff in the school and in the LEA who have worked so hard in recent times to make the school successful are bound to be sensitive about a slip like this.
