The General Teaching Council is to take no action against a teacher who admitted allowing underage pupils to buy drink.
Derek Ross was dismissed as head of drama at Elgin Academy in February for gross misconduct. He accepted at a GTC disciplinary hearing that he had permitted the pupils to order two half pints of lager and lime in a pub during a school trip to Dundee. A statement said the disciplinary committee had reached the unanimous conclusion that while Mr Ross “had been guilty of infamous conduct in a professional respect, in the particular circumstances of the case no direction need be given to the registrar”.
