De Montfort University Lincoln is launching the first UK masters degree in dyslexia studies this September.

The course is aimed at teachers and lecturers in primary, secondary, further and higher education, and will provide them with insights into the best methods of identifying, assessing and teaching dyslexic children.

The masters programme has been designed by staff in the Learning and Training Support Service based at the Faculty of Art and Design in Lincoln; many art students are affected by the condition.

Frank Swift, a spokesman for the support service, predicted that the course would prove popular. “It will act as a catalyst that will stimulate further research into the teaching and learning of dyslexic students,” he said.
