Scottish Screen launched the First Writes screen writing competition for 11 to 16-year-olds this week. Together with First Light, the Film Council Lottery-funded initiative for young people’s film making, Scottish Screen is inviting children to write stories that can be turned into five-minute films for their age group.

Three winners will be chosen to have their scripts filmed by a professional production company and they will have the chance to be involved throughout the film-making process, from casting to final editing. They will also be invited to a cinema premi re of the films before an invited audience of family and friends.

Children should submit written story ideas that are no longer than an A4 page and a competiton entry form (available online) by January 13.Full details www.scottishscreen.comor from Celian Stevenson, tel 0141 302 1700, e-mail first.writes@scottishscreen.com
