Flexibility is the key

Vivian Anthony hit the nail on the head when he said that persuasion would be preferable to compulsion (TES, November 10) and that flexibility should be the key to the 16-19 curriculum in the future.

With regard to the suggestion that universities should have an input into the 16-19 curriculum for the most able,I do not agree that this is necessary, as good teachers should be encouraging their ablest students to go well beyond the confines of the syllabus anyway.
