I have an ambition - I would like to be responsible for making cooking in schools compulsory.

That’s really what I feel we need. It should be compulsory from the age of seven to 13. Six years at school and maybe just half an hour or 40 minutes a week, that’s all I’m looking for.

And I don’t want children coming home with a new flavoured cake for Mummy every week. I would like a child of 13 to know how to poach an egg. Many people don’t know those very basic things.

I think if we make cooking compulsory between the age of 7 and 13, we will change the whole quality, concept, outlook of food in this country.
