Jamie Oliver has done his best to ban turkey twizzlers and other mass-produced food from the school canteen. Now food producers are adding their twopenn’orth to primary science classes.

The British Crop Production Council has published a set of five children’s books that illustrate where food comes from, with titles such as Will’s Wild Garden, Hannah’s Horse Chestnut and Trevor’s Magic Trolley.

Trevor’s magic trolley sees him transported around the world, visiting farms and other food producers.

The books, while colourful, do not illustrate the origins of food quite so graphically as chef Gordon Ramsay did when he asked his children to rear two pigs before butchering them for dinner.
