Four in five parents should be forced to pay towards their children’s education, a leading private school head said this week. Dr Anthony Seldon said the barriers between state and private school sectors should be broken down and partnership schools established.
The head of Brighton College, where fees cost up to pound;19,509 a year, said partnership schools should be paid for by general taxation and means-tested parental contributions. This would represent the best way of raising standards, he said.
