Forces personnel turn to teaching

More than 6,000 people leaving the armed forces have called the Teaching Line information service since March last year, but only 132 have been accepted to teacher training courses. Sixty per cent of those who expressed an interest did not have a degree, which meant they could not join existing courses. In response, the Westminster government is preparing to launch a new programme in England next year, aimed at service leavers who are not graduates.
