Joseph Lee was right to highlight the importance of foreign students to our economy (“Immigration should not be FE’s problem”, Editorial, September 17). Students are the wrong target in any drive to cut immigration. They bring vital income into education, gain valuable qualifications and return to home countries as friends of the UK for life, creating a valuable international network.
Ministers often promote the best of British. In our education system, we are world leaders and should be encouraging students to purchase this excellence rather than creating barriers that might force them to look elsewhere.
