If you go down to the woods this summer, you’ll find plenty of activities in which visitors of all ages can take part.

The Forestry Commission Scotland is keen for people to use their resources, so they are promoting events on their website. In Perthshire, for instance, there is a Bee Wisdom family day this Sunday at the Scottish Crannog Centre near Kenmore, where a master beekeeper will be on hand to talk Bronze Age bees, heavenly honey and beekeeping secrets.

And on July 15, children aged seven to 12 can take part in the Birdy Environmental Games in Glentress Forest near Peebles and find out what it is like to be a bird undergoing the trials of nesting, foraging for food and avoiding predators.
